Spiritually Blind

6 04 2010

In my New Testament class I have been working on an assignment about interpreting John 9: 1-41.  This is the story of when Jesus heals a man born blind.  Jesus spits on the ground and mixes it with clay and gives it to the man to go wash his eyes with. The man returns, obviously healed, and Jesus gets persecuted because he was doing work on the Sabbath.  The Pharisees pitch a big fit for the main reason of jeoulsly of Jesus’ popularity.  The end of chapter nine goes like this…

39Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.”

40Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?”

41Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

For the most part we have been blessed with ability to see the wonders of God’s creation.  But are we spiritually blind?  Blind of what God is trying to do in and through us every day?
